Can't get the tracks from my GPS

Postby kisscool » Wed May 13, 2009 9:54 am

Hi,

I'm trying to get the track points from my GPS but I can't find the right way to download it.

Actually, I have an unusual Bluetooth GPS Data Logger. It works fine on Windows with the given software (Datalog)

the GPS is that model : I-Blue 747 GPS Logger Bluetooth
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=250417924455

It's now connected to the macbook throw bluetooth.

I tried the 3 different providers ( Garmin, Magellan, WTB) and the input iBT-GPS-SPPslave-1
after a while I received various error message

What can I do ? Is there a solution ?

Thanks

You can get Mac software for that unit here.

Save your track as a gpx file and you'll be able to use that to geotag your photos.

The just released version in PhotoLinker includes a newer version of GPSBabel. In theory, this now supports your GPS unit, although I haven't tried it.

If the new version does work for you, I love to hear it,

Hi

I downloaded Photolinker and did this : Tracks / Download from GPS
- I chose GPSr : MKT (iblue 747, ...)
- Input : iBT-GPS-SPPslave-1
- checked the two boxes

Then click on Download
I select a folder
the a progress bar appears for something like 20s and a popup says : GPSBabel Error:
mtk_logger: This is not a MTK base GPS ! (or is it turned off .. and it's not)

I tried with it.

The connection works (bluetooth pour Mac), but when I click on telecharger (to download the data) nothing happens
If I click a second time, kind of a progress bar is displayed in the bottom of the window, but nothing happens
the file remains empty.

I just read the GPSBabel documentation more carefully and it looks like you'll have to connect the unit via USB, instead of over Bluetooth.

http://www.gpsbabel.org/htmldoc-develop ... t_mtk.html

Does that work any better?

That's the way I was used to do on my pc do transfer the files.

It was said bluetooth activated means navigation
and transfer means log

So, you're probably right whensaying to connect to usb.

I tried, ran the software but got a problem when wanting to download from the gps

On the screen, I choose GPSr : MTK (iBlue 747 ...)
But what should I choose as the input ?
I have 4 choices : iBT-GPS-SPPslave-1 (my bt connection to the gps), Bluethooth-PDA-sync, Bluetooth-Modem, Garmin-USB

At first I chose the last one .. but it didn't work
I tried the 3 others but none of them worked right.
I should have another choice I think (something like the USB connection looking a bit like the iBT-GPSslave-1)

Did I make something worng ? need to install a driver ?

Thanks for your help.

I finally found the solution...

Actually, I'm new to Mac and don't always understand how to do.
But the problem was, as I said the USB connection

after a search, I found the missing driver

https://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/Pag ... ivers.aspx

Here it is. Download the USB to UART driver for Mac and then install it.
You'll have to reboot.

but now, I plug the GPS throw USB, I put it on NAV then I run PhotoLinker
When trying to download from the GPS, here's what I have to do:
- GPSr : MTK (iBlue 747 ...)
- Input : SLAB_USBtoUART

and then after a while .. The paths are ok.

Thanks all of you form helping.

Fantastic! Glad to hear you got something to work -- it's unfortunate that there's so much voodoo involved in so many of the GPS receivers still.

Right, but thanks to this post, other iblue 747 users will have the solution for concialiation pictures (raw files included) and GPS tracking.

If people need help, contact me.

btw, I don't receive e-mails when there are posts (and I checked to be notified.. problem with your smtp server ?)
