Weird time zone adjustment problem

Postby kaboing on Mon Jul 19, 2010 1:53 pm

Hi all!

I'm using the trial version of PhotoLinker (2.2.2 396).

I have a weird problem when trying to adjust the time zone for my camera to get the automatic geotagging feature to work. I've been to Peru and set my camera to the local time zone (GMT -05:00). When I'm setting the time zone in the geotagging console/camera settings to -05:00 GMT, it acts as if the time zone adjustment is set to 00:00 GMT. In fact, this is happening with all negative values in the time zone adjustment setting. If I use positive numbers, for instance +02:00 GMT, I can see that the PhotoLinker is adjusting properly for that (moving the map, suggesting new positions).

So, for some reason I can't adjust time zones for negative values. Any ideas?

I have exactly the same problem, for camera setting GMT +1:00 (and other positive values) the matching and map is updated correctly, but for my trip to Brazil where I changed the cameras time setting PhotoLinker is unfortunately unusable since it doesn't recognize any negative GMT offsets, they are all treated as GMT 0:00 offset.

Is it possible to download a version of the program which doesn't exhibit this flaw?

Ok, 'unusable' seems to have been a bit harsh from my side. I wanted to use GMT offset -3:00. What I ended up doing as a workaround was this:

1) Mark all photos
2) Shift all photos +3h using Geotagging Console -> Date & Time Shifter
3) Geotag using GMT offset 0:00 by clicking 'Geotag <NNN> Photos'
4) Click 'Revert to original' in Geotagging Console -> Date & Time Shifter. This sets the correct time back to all photos, but the GPS locations are kept intact.
5) Click 'Write Changed Tags'

This replaces using GMT offset -3:00, with the only downside being a bit of extra work.

I somehow missed this thread and am just catching up -- but I can't reproduce the problem either. I tried all different combinations of time zone offsets and everything is working fine.

Can one of you confirm whether adjusting the original time zone is reflected in the "Original Time"? Does it correctly report, for example "9:23:05 GMT-01:00", when you have the time zone set to -1 (or any other value)?

Could you send me an example photo and GPS track to jeffrey@earlyinnovations.com?

Thanks,
Jeffrey
